Demolish the bridge!

This is one of those classic - why did I open my mouth moments.

The chair of Auckland City Councils transport committee has put forward the idea of demolishing the harbour bridge to solve the traffic issues. If people cant drive into the city - there wont be traffic issues. On one level he's right, but as expected thats gone down like the proverbial cup of cold sick.

How do people such little political nous get into these positions? A monkey could have told you thats a daft way to frame your argument!

Voltron

Rock the Casbah!! I bought a second hand copy of the Voltron Defender of the Universe set episodes 45-60 (who knew there were so many!).

Also this afternoon ive been nursing my hangover with Cannibal: The Musical Trey Parker and Matt Stone's first film. Like Orgazmo has some hilarious stunts, but overall its rubbish.

Darfur

Ok while this site has a no politics policy, we will have a little.

Ive just started reading Emergency Sex (my fav book) again which is about three UN civilian peaceworkers and their experiences. Dr Andrew Thomson is one of the three authors (he is the NZer). Thomson hit the headlines for this book after taking the a case against the UN for wrongful dismissal - they didnt renew his contract after publishing this book. He won the case and has now been promoted. The book is a damning report on the tactics of the UN. "If your country is in strife, and the people wearing pale blue hats and helmets arrive.....RUN!"

Anyway, the book recollects what happened in Rwanda in the early 1990s - over the course of a month close to 1 million Tutsi Rwandans were slaughtered, by the other people the Hutus. And the world and UN did nothing to stop it - no one was interested basically. At the same time Bosnia was in crisis with similar killings - but on a smaller scale. One does have to note Rwanda is an entirely black country in deepest darkest Africa, whereas Bosnia/former Yugoslavia is a largely White country in Europe.

Currently in Darfur - Sudan the same thing is essentially happening - and again no one is doing anything. So far 400 000 people have been killed and thousands, if not millions have been raped - the weapon of choice. Basically the Sudanese Liberation army attacked a miliatry base in 2003, since then the govt has responded by setting up a militia to carry out revenge - which has led to small villages being attacked - the men and boys murdered and women raped.

Its a disgrace that we do nothing about these situations, when Oil isnt involved - the major nations dont care. And when the US isnt involved most protest organisations dont seem to care.

Korus, swirls and driftwood

Ive spent the day helping a couple of dyke friends of mine move into their new bach with another dyke couple also helping out.

They introduced me to the Lesbian interior design techniques. Apparently while a lot of people think the koru is a Maori design, its actually a Lesbian one, the same with Swirls and bits of driftwood tacked together and used as a shoe rack/coat hook etc.

Tacky beach lezza chic as they called it.

Hilarious

The Aristocrats and Newtown Ghetto Anger

Trey Parker of South Park fame has contributed this clip to the upcoming film - The Aristocrats.

The film is all about this in-joke amongst american comics which finishes with the same punchline, and its not meant to be particularly funny - which of course makes it hilarious.

Public Address also has the latest Newtown Ghetto Anger cartoon strip - which can be viewed
here. NGA is a great local satire and definitely worth a look. Also here is the last one - its a dig at Brash so why not!

Music Biopics

Don't get me wrong - Walk the Line was fantastic, Joaquin Phoenix was an awesome Johnny Cash. Im also sure Ray and Jamie whats his face was great....

But do we need anymore of them? Im not so sure - certainly not people who arent dead anyway!

Elijah Wood (of all people) has apparently signed on to play Iggy Pop in a biopic called The Passenger. With all due respect to young Frodo he's too... nice and clean looking to play a punk rock god.

Mike Myers is also apparently gonna play Who drummer - Keith Moon. Christian Bale is signed on to play Bob Dylan and last but by no means least Renee Zellwegger is gonna play Janis Joplin.

It's no coincidence that both Ray and Walk the Line picked up leading Actor Oscars (Foxx and Witherspoon). To me the production houses seem to have seen the awards coming in and are therefore flooding the market.

To me its a fairly safe bet that at least a couple of these will be ignorred or fall into the dreaded straight to DVD category. Aside from Frodo being inappropriate, im just not sure people really want to watch a film about Iggy Pop yes he's a legend but really do we need a movie?? And to be honest Id bet that most people today wouldnt remember Keith Moon. Dont even start me on fucking Zellwegger.

As for Bob Dylan, id watch that at least, but im pretty sure the studios are banking on him carking it, maybe they will hold this in preproduction until he at least is admitted to hospital!

Knowing the difference between an album and an EP

Not exactly a new phenomena.... or so I thought....

Arctic Monkeys are releasing a follow up to their first album in the form of an EP (extended play for the uninitiated) titled - Who the Fuck Are the Arctic Monkeys? This was released on on Monday 24 April in the UK, so I thought id pop into the friendly local Sounds store on Lambton Quay to find out when its gonna come out.

I was told there wasn't a new album, they only have one album which was released in February. I said yes, but this isnt an album, its an EP and is a follow up to said album. They then said that there was a new single due shortly...... an EP isnt a single as such - its an extended single, a mini album effectively, its predominantly new music - they looked at me like I was attempting to convince them of the possibilities of time travel - the old this guys having a laugh look.

I said forget it, ill pick it up online. They then (with a sarky tone) that they could call EMI to clarify whether or not the Arctic Monkeys were releasing a new album or EP. Prick. I said good, EMI then confirmed that an EP was due but a date wasn't set. Vindication.

EPs do exist! and this fuckin pair of clown shoes now knows this.

What I dont get is how on earth can you manage a music store and not know what an EP is?

Dan! Dan! ......Dan! ......Dan!

IMDB has it on their site that there's gonna be an Alan Partridge film due for release in 2007. All I have to say is Jurassic Park!

This is the only place ive heard this so not sure how valid it is but hey - Kiss my face!

A blog

Well I thought i'd give this a crack. Ive got a lot of BS to throw around on completely trivial topics, so I thought why not share the love!.
